WHAT IS THE DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION LEADERSHIP COURSE ABOUT?
Disruption is an opportunity and challenge for all organisations, economies and individuals. Facing the challenges of a disruptive environment requires new ways of thinking and practices in order to survive and thrive.
This two-day intensive program is designed to empower leaders with the thinking patterns and practical skills to lead disruptive innovation activities, and to face rapid change and growing environmental uncertainty, often caused by technological development.
Economies, organisations and individuals that adopt and apply new methods to face challenges of disruptive environments will be the leaders and drivers of growth and value creation in future.
In this course, we'll explore how you can apply different ways of thinking and working to not only solve complex problems, but to fundamentally disrupt your industry to gain an edge using disruptive imperatives, processes and tools.
The course will examine:
- The innovation imperative and the role of leaders and organisations in developing new value opportunities
- How to think like a disruptor and positively self-disrupt an environment using corporate venturing
- Synthesis and systemic ideation paired with customer-led innovation methodologies that can be used to identify new ventures and opportunities for value creation
- Applied corporate venture methods that rapidly validate disruptive opportunities.
An intensive immersion into the methods and application of disruptive innovation and corporate venturing, with a focus on learning new ways of thinking and acquiring practical skills.
A) AWARENESS - What is disruption and why does it matter? How do you positively disrupt?
Participant Outcomes - The Innovation Imperative. Thinking Like a Disruptor
- Awareness of the role of leaders to help organisations and individuals confront the challenge of disruption;
- Introduction to disruptive thinking and the ways in which participants' organisations are currently (or may be) disrupted by competitors; and
- Exploration of the principles of innovation and the importance of customer centricity as core to disruptive innovation leadership.
B) ACCEPTANCE - Developing revenue resilience, anti-fragility, preparedness for disruption.
Participant Outcomes - Resilient Organisations, Customer vs Product Centricity
- Understand the challenge of disruption, Revenue Resilience and opportunities for their organisation to address exposure;
- Exploration customer centric innovation and environmental sensing; and
- Learned to apply a new perspective regarding opportunity identification and strategic analysis.
C) ACTION - Disruptive Thinking. Methods and Tools to identify new opportunities for value creation.
Participant Outcomes - New Tools, New Behaviours
- Understand the nature of innovative opportunities, different business models and using digital as an enabler;
- Learned to rapidly generate relevant and viable opportunities for value creation;
- Learned to identify, define and assess venture opportunities to solve customer problems-worth-solving.
A practical workshop where you'll apply the skills acquired on day one on your organisation and on those of other participants. We'll examine an invited organisation as a test case to identify opportunities for disruption in participants' organisations, and develop action plans.

Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz
Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz has an extensive global experience in product and innovation development. His focus is on user experience, business collaboration tools, developer evangelism and organisational culture in innovation. Since commencing as the PwC Chair in Digital Economy at QUT, Marek's research has extended to include design-led innovation and systemic ideation.
PROFESSOR MICHAEL ROSEMANN
Professor Michael Rosemann is a disruptive thinker with a digital mind and a passion for corporate innovation (eco)systems. His work is focused on creating exciting future worlds with today’s possibilities that make current practices obsolete. As a researcher and advisor to board rooms and senior executives he is committed to advancing knowledge and confidence in the areas of revenue resilience, digital mindfulness and innovation/opportunity management.
Ben Sorensen is a director of the innovation and disruption team in the PwC Chair in Digital Economy, and leader of their Queensland innovation hub. His focus is on helping organisations and individuals to adopt new ways of thinking, positively self-disrupt and create new value. Over the past twenty years he has consulted globally to government, corporates, non-governement organisations, and private businesses to collaboratively solve complex problems and discover opportunities to create new value.
